Delticom AG successfully sells tyres via the internet for one year.

Hanover, 06.02.2001. The first professional tyre dealer in the internet, Delticom AG has now been online for one year, since its launch on 15th January 2000. As reported, the Hanover-based tyre dealing company achieved a turnover of DM 13.5 million - 35 Percent more than expected. One-third of this revenue was achieved entirely using the new online sales channel. "We have proven that tyres can be sold via the internet and that e-commerce - the new economy - works, if you use the know-how from the traditional tyre dealer business", explained Managing Director Dr. Andreas Pruefer (37). The company wants to expand its business activities in the internet. By 2002 the percentage of the total turnover should be more than 50 percent.
In twelve months 2.5 million hits from 47 countries were registered on the platforms www.reifendirekt.de in Germany and www.reifendirekt.at in Austria for private customers (B2C) as well as www.autoreifenonline.de for manufacturers and suppliers (B2B). On average this means 7000 hits per day. "Since 20th February 2000 we have not had one day without an order", Managing Director Rainer Binder (42) explained. The peak day was the 30th of October 2000 with 600 orders - right on time for the begin of the winter season. "We are very satisfied with our winter tyre business." 98 percent of the orders came from Germany, two percent from outside Germany. The furthest delivery was to Mallorca in July 2000. The sites for other countries are currently being developed.
The customer spectrum includes all ages, occupations and regions. "Everybody buys here", Pruefer emphasised. "Every day". Peak times are between eleven and 15 and 18 and 21 hours. Conclusion after one year online: internet customers want personal telephone service. This service is currently provided by five employees in Hanover and a call center.
The success of Delticom is based primarily on service. This includes a fast shop system without unnecessary extras such as banners, flash animations or detailed graphics, as well as a return policy which extends the legally required period of 14 days to 30 days and over 700 installation service partners in Germany and Austria. Binder emphasizes: "This makes us the leading professional online tyre dealer in the German-speaking countries."
